Unsung Heroes Nomination for Garden Volunteers

We are thrilled that our amazing Amersham Garden Volunteers have been shortlisted for the Volunteer of the Year (Team) Unsung Hero Award!

The Unsung Hero Awards were established in 2015 to promote a sense of personal well–being and promote Non-Medical and Non-Clinical NHS Staff and Volunteers.

Our Amersham Garden Volunteers have been transforming outdoor spaces across Amersham Hospital, creating beautiful, calming and nature-friendly spaces for patients, their families, and colleagues to enjoy.

This work is invaluable for both improving the time our patients spend with us at the hospital, giving them a place to escape the wards to get fresh air and connect with nature, but also research shows access to nature and outside spaces reduces hospital length of stay.

The list reads: Amersham Hospital Garden Volunteers - Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust Blossom Volunteers - Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust Our Angel Bears - Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust Self Care Management Team Volunteers - Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust The NHS Power Choir - Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

More recently, our Amersham Gardens Volunteers have embarked on a project to restore the lawns across Amersham Hospital back to native wildflower meadows. Read more about the wildflower project, and keep up with the work our garden volunteers do at the links below.
