Meet Our Runners: Julie Sturges

We have ten tremendous runners who have taken up the challenge of running for our charity in this year’s London Marathon, here is why Julie chose to run for us!

Meet Our Runners: Julie Sturges

Hello, I am Julie Sturges a Lead Nurse at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust for the Tissue Viability service. I trained at Stoke Mandeville School of Nursing in 1986 and began work as a newly qualified staff nurse within the burns and plastics unit where I developed a passion for all things wound-related. I worked at other hospitals before returning to the Trust in 2001, firstly in plastic surgery then moving to tissue viability.

I have never been sporty, until 8 years ago when I undertook the NHS couch to 5k app with my neighbour. I then joined a local running club ‘On the Run’ and developed an obsession with Parkrun, I have now run 240 of them at 132 locations and volunteered 74 times. I go to London to watch the London Marathon each year and always enter the ballot – unsuccessfully!

I saw the Trust requesting applications to run and raise much-needed funds for the Trusts Charitable Fund and decided to apply in a moment of madness. I have done 3 half marathons over the years, the last being in 2023, but my usual runs are 3-5 miles. I have followed my 16-week training plan to the letter and am up to 17 miles. The support from everyone has been amazing and I am looking forward to representing the Trust on marathon day and hoping to do myself proud.

Helen Griffith and I are holding a fundraising quiz on March 9th and selling raffle tickets at £1 each with some great prizes, my sponsorship link is below, thank you.
